Student dance troupes from the Glenview area performed Monday at the annual Dancing with the Hearts fundraiser.

The benefit helped support eight charities when teens performed at Regal Glen 10 Stadium Theaters at The Glen Town Center in Glenview.

The charities were Clearbrook, Family Service Center, Glenkirk, Northfield Township Food Pantry, Perk Center Café, Sister Paulanne’s Needy Family Fund, Wesley Child Care and Youth Services of Glenview /Northbrook. “We don’t often get a chance to introduce Clearbrook to people,” said Don Marquis, director of corporate relations for Clearbrook, a group that creates opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Clearbrook is headquartered in Arlington Heights and has group homes in Glenview.

“Clearbrook benefits a great deal from this event,” Marquis said.

Monday’s benefit featured something new: a dance flash mob.

Chris Krueger, chairman of The Glenview Giving Foundation that organizes the Heart events, said more than 300 kids danced.

“When I saw dance students in London amaze tourists when they performed a dance flash mob outside Buckingham Palace last spring, the wheels started turning and I knew that this was something we wanted to create right here,” he said.

“There’s real group energy and joy in something like that.”

In addition to the flash mob, dance troupes from Glenbrook South High School, Loyola Academy, Regina Dominican High School and Main West High School performed during the evening.

Dance 2 Dance studio in Glenview will also participated in the gala event.

Clips of popular dance sequences in movies, such as “Dirty Dancing ” and “Singin’ in the Rain,” provided backdrops for the live student performances.

As in the past, 40 local restaurants have agreed to serve food tastings.

True Bakery in Glenview attended the fundraiser for the first time.

“We just want to do our part in helping local charities,” said owner Nancy Gustin.
