GLENVIEW — For most people, going to the dentist isn’t high on the list of favorite things.
“I never liked going to the dentist,” said Jeff Kaddatz of Glenview, “The pain, the sound of the drill, it’s just awful.”
In July of 2012, Kaddatz was having severe tooth pain, so he visited his dentist, and found out he needed a re-root canal. He was referred to Bordignon Dental Associates, where he was treated by Dr. Thomas Bordignon, D.D.S.
“I see so much apprehension and fear based on patients’ bad experiences,” said Bordignon, who attended dental school at Loyola University, “But dentistry has changed so much. Some of the newer techniques have completely alleviated the concerns that patients have in terms of discomfort.”
It has been 15 years since Bordignon bought his practice, which is located on Dewes Street, just south of downtown Glenview. The practice had been in existence since 1951.
Bordignon Dental Associates offers traditional dental care for adults and children, including basic hygiene and dental cleanings, preventative care, crowns, bridges, fillings, implants, root canal therapy, gum therapy, tooth whitening and veneers.
The practice employs one additional dentist, five dental hygienists, a periodontist, three dental assistants, and a receptionist. When choosing his staff, Bordignon said it all comes down to personality.
“They’ve got to be compassionate, caring, outgoing, and they have to have the ability to soothe apprehensive patients,” he said.
“Dr. Bordignon saw me on his day off,” said Kaddatz, whose three children are now patients of the practice. “He makes you feel comfortable and he tells you what he is doing at all times. That really helps.”
Mike Shewchuck of Glenview has been a patient for 10 years.
“The worst part of going to the dentist is the stress that you’re going to have some issue and you’re going to need shots and drilling and then have pain,” Shewchuck said. “But I don’t really mind coming here because they make it painless and easy.”
In 2011, Bordignon renovated his office, adding more and larger patient rooms and a larger sterilization area. The layout of the office also changed significantly.
“The new, more fluid layout allows our staff to be so much more efficient,” he said. “I needed to expand the office due to growth. It was the right time to reinvest into the business.”
Bordignon said he enjoys practicing in Glenview because people here can afford to take care of their mouths, which allows him to provide high quality care and use good materials.
