Baseball life after cancer looking up for Danny Hyde

When Danny Hyde thinks about it, the former Notre Dame baseball standout is amazed at how far he has come, especially considering where he was less than two years ago.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “Time is really flying. It seems like just yesterday I was struggling with everything. Now, nothing is holding me back.”

That “everything” Hyde referred to included a diagnosis of non-Hodgkins lymphoma during September of his senior year. He completed chemotherapy treatments and surprised many by returning to the Dons that spring.

Now healthy, Hyde continues to regain the strength he lost during his illness. His coach at Oakton Community College was impressed with the progress Hyde made during his freshman season. In 22 games, Hyde hit .310 with two doubles. He also pitched 14 2/3 innings.
