Celebrating the season of ripe tomatoes, Highwood held its fifth annual Bloody Mary Fest to the delight of more than 3,000 thirsty attendees on July 27 at Everts Park in Highwood.
Three-year-running People’s Choice Award winner, the Toadstool Pub of Highwood, which could never quite sweep the judges off their plinths, finally pushed through not only to win the coveted Judge’s Choice award but went on the sweep the entire Fest, garnering Best Garnish as well, for their triple-threat Mary made for morning, noon and night. Second place in Judge’s Choice went to the Tap House Grill of Highwood, and Stu’s Kitchen of Chicago took third. Stu’s also won the second place People’s Choice Award, while Vintage Vine of Chicago and Alex’s Washington Gardens of Highwood tied for third.
The afternoon included the annual 5k race, which raised $1,300 for Kids Rank, an organization which seeks to aid children of military lifestyles.
