The Women’s Board of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago held its annual meeting and luncheon on June 11 at the Glen View Club in Glenview. The board presented a $450,000 check to Dr. Joanne Smith, president and chief executive officer of RIC.
“I thank the Women’s Board for its marvelous work and fabulous fundraising,” said Dr. Smith. “This is an exciting time for RIC with a new hospital currently being built with a completion date of January 2017. Further, the facility will have a new name, The Ability Institute of RIC, and is literally the only project of its kind anywhere on the planet.”
The meeting also included a review of the Board’s 2013-14 activities, which included the April Annual Antiques Show Preview Party held at Navy Pier. The Preview Party Chairmen, Kitty Freidheim and Leslie Kennedy, stated that the net raised was over $200,000, about the highest figure ever attained by this party.
Among the meeting’s guests were Patricia Lear of Evanston, Kristi Brown and Connie Coolidge, both of Kenilworth, Susan Garland and Lori Komisar, both of Winnetka, Astra Gamsjaeger of Glencoe and Maureen Byron of Highland Park. Susan Mackenzie of Chicago is president of the RIC Women’s Board.
The Women’s Board next major fundraising event is the Annual Benefit Ball that will be held on Friday, October 24 at the Bridgeport Art Center and is being chaired by Britt Taner and Carrie Grant of Chicago, and Kristi Brown of Kenilworth.
“This year the party will be an old fashion dinner dance with a new a new twist — cocktail attire and a super DJ from Los Angeles,” said Grant.
Founded in 1954, RIC provides comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation care to patients from around the world.
