Four were sent to local hospitals this afternoon after a vehicle crashed into the Mariano’s grocery store in Northfield.

At 3:02 p.m. Wednesday, a single vehicle crashed into the building at 1822 Willow Road.

“A driver hit the brick wall at Mariano’s,” said Northfield Police Chief Bill Lustig. “She and her passenger were taken to the hospital. The impact of hitting the wall on the inside also injured one employee and a shopper.”

Lustig said the four were transported to area hospitals, but all are expected to be okay.

“The driver’s [injuries] appeared semi-serious,” Lustig said. “She had a leg wound.”

According to Lustig, officers are still determining the cause of the accident.

Lustig said the accident also damaged a water pipe inside the building, and that Mariano’s would be closing the store for the remainder of the day Wednesday.

A Mariano’s employee confirmed the store’s closure, but said the store would push to reopen Thursday morning.
