This season is getting a big sendoff at Winnetka Park District’s Farewell to Summer Family Luau, 4-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Tower Road Beach, Tower and Sheridan Roads.

“The lifeguards will come back one more time to guard the water so patrons can swim,” said Recreation Supervisor John Shea. “We’ll barbecue for patrons that register for the event. We’ll decorate the beach with Hawaiian themed decorations — tiki torches, Hawaiian colors. We’ll have a band from Barefoot Hawaiian, dancers and a fire act at 7 o’clock. The band will be playing throughout the event.”

The Des Plaines-based Barefoot Hawaiian has been bringing Hawaiian, Tahitian and Polynesian music, dance and culture to the Midwest for more than 40 years. They are known for their many colorful authentic costumes and high-energy performances.

Residents pay $5 per child, $10 per adult; nonresidents pay $10 and $20. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.
