Family Friendly: Plum Crazy Puppets with pop music at Northbrook Library

Little kids and their parents will see more than 50 puppets when Plum Crazy Puppets presents the “Hot Diggity Dog & Sassafras Family Concert,” 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Lane.

“This show was designed to be a laid-back celebration of summer with a twist,” said puppeteer Silvia Kraft-Walker. “It brings together the world of adult contemporary rock with puppets and lyrics appropriate for preschoolers.”

Live music is provided by singer/guitarist Andre Gloeckner who performs songs by such artists as the Beatles, Cat Stevens, Three Dog Night and Woody Guthrie. Meanwhile, kids are absorbed in the antics of Puff the Magic Dragon, a purple marionette; a singing cactus; a puppet-eating hamburger and other wacky creatures.

Kraft-Walker, a children’s librarian at the Glenview Public Library, says, “There’s nothing better than making preschoolers laugh. That’s the whole reason I created my puppet company.” She added that the company, “serves as a huge creative outlet for me.”
