Northbrook: IDOT says it will have 4 Willow lanes open by September’s end

It’s almost over.

Northbrook officials reported Friday, Aug. 29, that the Illinois Department of Transportation has promised that Willow Road will be open to four lanes of traffic by the end of September.

The exact timing of the opening of the four lanes is contingent on relocation of some utilities and on the vagaries of weather.

The $27 million project’s end is scheduled for the end of October, and ancillary project work is likely to continue after all the lanes are open. The roadwork began in March 2013.

The project’s scope is from the Edens Expressway to Waukegan Road, through Northfield, Northbrook, Glenview & unincorporated Northfield Township.

In addition to work on Willow, it includes widening and reconstruction of its intersections with Waukegan Road, Sunset Ridge Road, and Wagner Road. It also includes eight new traffic signal arrays, reconstruction of the bridge over the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River, extensive work on the bridge over the Edens, landscaping throughout, and continuous sidewalk along the two-miles from the expressway to Route 43.
