The Chicago Botanic Garden

Registration for the 2012: summer day camp programs has begun. In addition to the Chicago Botanic Garden’s weeklong summer day camp, Camp CBG now offers full-day camps from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for two weeks for children ages 6-9. Among the camps offered are My First Camp 2 & 3; Green Sprouts; Green Thumbs; Explorer; Adventurers; Leaders in Training; Yoga Bash; and Discover Dance.

Camp CBG provides: exciting and enriching learning experiences for children ages 2-12. The Garden offers weeklong camps with morning, afternoon, and all-day options from June 18 to Aug. 17. Online registration is open through June.

Families visiting the Garden: can borrow Discovery Backpacks from the Information Desk in the Visitor Center. They are available year-round and will be loaned out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Butterflies & Blooms: an outdoor butterfly garden where visitors can immerse themselves with live tropical butterflies will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, June 2-Sept. 3, weather permitting. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Members receive $1 off each price. Combination tickets are available for Butterflies and Blooms and the Model Railroad Garden and cost $8 for adults and $5 for children. Members receive $1 off each ticket price.

The Lenhardt Library: will present an exhibition of “Rare Seeds, Creative harvest: Artists Books Inspired by the Rare Book Collection” through Aug. 12. The library hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; from noon-4 p.m. Saturday and by appointment on Sunday.

Fitness walks: are offered from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. through Nov. 17. The cost for four sessions is $38 for members and $46 for nonmembers; eight sessions is $76 for members and $92 for nonmembers; 12 sessions is $114 for members and $138 for nonmembers; 16 sessions for $152 for members and $184 for nonmembers; and a season pass is $285 for members and $345 for nonmembers. Glenview Farmers Market: Begins June 23. This free weekly event is open for shopping rain or shine from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from June 23 to Oct. 6 in the parking lot directly opposite the Wagner Farmhouse, 1510 Wagner Road. In addition to fresh produce, the Market features the Green Table, with a weekly theme aimed at promoting conversation about and educate on sustainable living; the Chef’s Table, where local chefs demonstrate recipes using produce from the Market; and the Community Table, which features local nonprofit groups.

Sportskids Archery: Learn the basics of a recurve bow in a safe environment. Blunt tipped arrows, bows and targets are provided in this nationally-recognized nine-step safety program. The Brave Way: This self-defense training teaches personal security, self-defense and rape-prevention techniques to help protect you and keep loved ones safer and more secure. The class is offered from 7-9 p.m. June 20, for ages 8 and over. Children ages 8 to 11 must be accompanied by an adult also registered for the program. Fee is $31 for residents and $38.75 for nonresidents.

Rhythmic Gymnastics: This sport combines dance and acrobatic elements using props. Students develop strength, flexibility, agility dexterity, hand-eye coordination and endurance. Classes begin June 23. They are 9-9:45 a.m. for girls ages 3 and 4, at $55 for residents and $68.75 for nonresidents, and 9-10 a.m. for girls ages 5 to 7, at $73 for residents and $91.25 for nonresidents.

Glenview Park Golf Club

Junior Academy: This five-week Saturday morning lesson program will prepare golfers for the course. Techniques for full swing, putting, chipping, sand play and rules and etiquette are covered. Lessons run Saturdays from June 16 to July 14, from 9-10 a.m. for 8- to 12-year-olds and 10-11 a.m. for 13- to 17-year-olds. Fee is $125 for residents and nonresidents.

Youth Golf Experience: Young golfers can learn the competitive aspects of golf without losing sight of the primary principle of honesty. Accomplished golfers assist, and participants receive cool gifts, an awards luncheon and a special invitation to “Family Night.” Boys and girls, ages 11 to 18, tee off for nine or 18 holes between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Mondays from June 11 to July 23. • Active Start, where students ages 3 to 5 play games that help develop motor patterns used in golf and other sports, offered 3-3:45 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays beginning the week of June 11. Fee is $120 for residents and nonresidents.

• Fundamentals, where students ages 6 to 9 go through a 12-station training course to learn the foundations of golf moves, offered 1-2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 4-5:15 p.m. Mondays or Wednesdays; or 10-11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays beginning the week of June 11. Glow-in-the-Dark Golf:. Have fun on the golf course after dark on Saturday nights. Tee time reservations are required and are available from 8-10 p.m. Green fees are just $18 per player, and a deposit will be held for “glow balls.”

Junior Golf League: This non-instructional league gives younger golfers, ages 10 to 15, the chance to play nine holes and meet other golfers their age. Good golf etiquette will be stressed and rules strictly enforced. Tee times begin at 1:30 p.m. Mondays, June 11 to August 6. Fee is $165 per child, which includes green fees and registration.

Goin’ Batty: Learn the truth about bats, what they eat, where they live and how they use echolocation to maneuver around in the dark, then walk the Grove’s trails to search for these mysterious creatures. Pond Explorers: Parents and children 4-6 years old can discover the wet and wiggly inhabitants of Grove ponds during this class 10-11 a.m. June 24. Fee is $12 per adult/child pair. Additional children can be registered for $6.

Restoration Work Day: Weather permitting, the next work day at The Grove is June 23, beginning at 9 a.m. Help collect seeds or remove non-native, invasive plants to make way for native wildflowers, grasses ad trees. Ages 8 and up are welcome. Bring work gloves if you have them. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

Free Trail Walk: Guided trail walks are ideal for families and individuals interested in nature. The next nature walk at 2 p.m. June 23, at The Grove will focus on wildflowers, pond life and insects.
