“Pack the Place” — it was an easy assignment.
It was just as easy for the event sponsors, members of the Titan Booster Club of Glenview’s Glenbrook High School to fulfill their mission that Jan. 4 evening. The club, an active group of volunteer family and community members, raises funds — and spirits — to support the school’s students and athletes.
Near the basketball court, parents, many with small children, streamed by long tables piled with plush sweatshirts, mittens, T-shirts that the club sells to support Titan activities and athletics.
“I love the Booster Club,” said Sandy Brennan, a 14-year Glenview resident and booster. “They do many wonderful things for the kids. Dale does a great job.”
Within earshot was Dale Sailer, a 21-year Glenview resident, president of the Booster Club board, who said, “I rue the day that I don’t have kids at this school.”
Sailer and his wife Laura have three children, Philip, 20, a University of Wisconsin-Madison junior, Emma, 18, a GBS senior and soccer player, and Calvin, 15, a GBS freshman who’s in football and volleyball.
Selling the gear, he says, “It’s all about community, team spirit and forever being a Titan,” said Sailer. “At the end of the day, the only thing that matters for many of us is our community.
That community is, he explains, “our families, it’s our neighbors, it’s the folks that our kids are with all of the time. And we’re very fortunate here at Glenbrook South to really have an unbelievable community of kids and families.”
Spirit means fun, too. “The folks who are members of this club are what I would refer to as knuckleheads when it comes to their belief in what the school represents and the whole Titan spirit,” Sailer said.
All knuckleheads please save the date March 9 for the Booster Club fundraiser “A Night at the Races” starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Northbrook Renaissance Chicago Hotel. The cost of the evening will be $60. Visit www.titanboosters.org for information.
