The Quintet Attacca, with guest pianist Matthew Hagle, appeared on Jan. 22 at the Highland Park Community House, 1991 Sheridan Road, Highland Park. A prizewinning group, their program included “Sextet for Winds and Piano” by Poulenc, “Konzerstuck” for clarinet, bassoon and piano by Mendelssohn, “Summer Music” by Samuel Barber and the “Trio from Rio” and “Klezmer Music” by Don Draganski. Mr. Draganski of Evanston was present at the concert.
Quintet Attacca is one of Chicago’s most dynamic chamber music ensembles. Grand Prize Winner of the 2002 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the quintet has spent the past three years in residence with the Chicago Chamber Musicians’ Professional Development Program. Quintet Attacca is also proud to be in residence at the Music Institute of Chicago and Lake Forest College.
Members of the Quintet are Jennifer Clipper, flute; Erica Anderson, oboe; Barbara Drapcho, clarinet; Collin Anderson bassoon; Jeremiah Frederick, horn. Matthew Hagle, guest pianist joined the quintet for the program.
Founded 15 years ago by pianist Carol Honigberg of Highland Park, the Pilgrim Chamber Players give four concerts per year and one free concert featuring young talented musicians from the Chicago area, entitled, Stars of Tomorrow.
The not-for-profit group considers outreach a most important component of its mission. The Friedman House for the Seeing Impaired and Sunrise Assisted Living are presented with complimentary tickets regularly. There is also a concert for the Highland Park Senior Center, two children’s concerts at the Highland Park Nursery School and Day Care Center, plus a concert at the Kohl Children’s Museum.
Attendees are always invited to a dessert reception following the concert. North Shore guests included Mary Lawton, David and Susan Ruder of Highland Park; Cyndee Schaeffer of Northbrook and Karen Strauss of Winnetka.
James H. Stone of Winnetka is the president of the Board of Directors and board members include Gail Guggenheim and Rhoda Pierce of Highland Park, Madeleine Plonsker of Glencoe and Dr. Marvin Katz of Chicago. Carol Honigberg is the Artistic Director.
