The North Shore Board of the Northwestern Settlement met its fundraising goals for its annual benefit, the Glitter Ball, held Nov.5, 2011, at the Chicago Four Seasons Hotel.

The $311,000 raised, through a combination of a paddle raise, silent and live auction will go directly to pay for camper’s tuition. Guests included four hundred business and community leaders from the North Shore and Chicago who joined together to raise funds for House In The Wood camp in Lake Delavan, Wisconsin, one of many community services provided by Northwestern Settlement.

Approximately four hundred low-income children, ages seven to seventeen, from the greater Chicago area attend camp annually, with approximately sixty percent male and forty percent female.

North Shore Board president, Barbie Myers, greeted guests and introduced the speaker, Yesenia Rios, who highlighted her years as a camper and how it prepared her towards a current successful career path. The many life lessons learned and the confidence gained while at camp lead her to pursue a college degree. ABC TV’s Ron Magers, served as the master of ceremonies. The live auction included vacation packages as well as a golden retriever puppy.

Winnetka and Glencoe residents, and benefit co‐chairs, Ginny Burnstine, Kate McBreen, and Linda O’Toole, coordinated the efforts of fundraising and staging the event at the Four Seasons Chicago. The co-chairs worked along side the president and more than 60 board members residing from the North Shore and Chicago area.

The Northwestern Settlement was founded in 1891 to provide resources to empower West Town neighbors, and enabling them to overcome obstacles of poverty and improving the quality of their lives.
