‘Dancing with the Hearts’ event stepping out Feb. 6

Updated: March 3, 2012 8:14AM

Dancing with the Hearts fundraiser in Glenview features an added dance performance to a show already filled with choreographed entertainment.

The event’s finale Feb. 6 includes a reprise of the dance flash mob that premiered at Kids Heart of Glenview in November.

Both annual benefits help support eight charities when teens perform at Regal Glen 10 Stadium Theaters at The Glen Town Center in Glenview.

Chris Krueger, chairman of The Glenview Giving Foundation that organizes the Heart events, said more than 300 kids danced in the November fundraiser.

“When I saw dance students in London amaze tourists when they performed a dance flash mob outside Buckingham Palace last spring, the wheels started turning and I knew that this was something we wanted to create right here,” he said.

“There’s real group energy and joy in something like that.”

At the November fundraiser, Maria Hernandez choreographed the dance (seen at http://vimeo.com/35358565) to the song “Price Tag.”

“The meaning of this song is that it’s not about money. It’s how we share the talents that each of us has and how we support each other as human beings,” Hernandez said.

Glenview Giving Foundation encourages everyone to learn some of the dance and come out to the Regal Glen 10 Theaters at The Glen Town Center Feb. 6.

In addition to the flash mob, dance troupes from Glenbrook South High School, Loyola Academy, Regina Dominican High School and Main West High School will perform.

Dance 2 Dance studio in Glenview will also participate in the gala event.

Clips of popular dance sequences in movies, such as “Dirty Dancing ” and “Singin’ in the Rain,” provide backdrops for the live student performances.

As in the past, 40 local restaurants have agreed to serve food tastings.

Topping off the evening will be silent and live auctions and raffles.

Dancing With the Hearts will be 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 for all ages and can be purchased at any of the eight charities or at www.glenviewgivingfoundation.org.

When someone buys a ticket, they can choose to sell 10 restaurant raffle tickets for $10 to enter to the event.

Donated by participating restaurants, raffle winners have a chance to win one of forty $50 gift certificates.

The fundraiser helps support the work of Clearbrook, Family Service Center, Glenkirk, Northfield Township Food Pantry, Perk Center Café, Sister Paulanne’s Needy Family Fund, Wesley Child Care and Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook.
