The traditional Variety Show at Glenbrook High School started 36 years ago, but this year’s event has a heightened sense of fanfare.
Glenbrook is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and students, staff and faculty have spent hours in preparation.
On Feb. 25, the Anniversary Gala begins with a noon luncheon, the welcoming of guests and opening of the Titan Time Sphere capsule in the David P. Pasquini Fieldhouse/Auditorium, 4000 W. Lake Ave, Glenview.
Produced by instructor Mark Ferguson, a video also will be shown featuring interviews with alumni, followed by Glenview Village President Kerry Cummings presenting a special proclamation.
New items will be placed in the time capsule and resealed, with the student Variety Show Gold starting at 2 p.m.
More than 400 students and staff are in the show, with another 40 working on the tech and stage crew.
Thirty-seven acts were cast, while 140 acts auditioned.
“This year’s V-Show will not only showcase the high level of talent we have amongst our students, but it will bring our school community together to commemorate 50 years of Titan history,” said Jim Shellard, assistant principal of Student Activities.
“Glenbrook South is truly a place that allows students the chance to explore and develop a wide range of interests, and I believe that is why the success stories of our students are so diverse.”
The Variety Show started in 1976 as a tie-in to winter homecoming under the leadership of David Smith, who was Student Activities director and later principal until 2005.
Expected attendance for the Variety Show and the Gala is 1,200, consisting of parents, students, community members and alumni.
Tickets must be reserved by Feb. 10. To reserve tickets online, go to www.glenbrook225.org/south/gbsevents/GBS50th/Pages/home2.aspx.
