Pedestrian killed in Mount Prospect collision

A 19-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday night after apparently walking into traffic in northwest suburban Mount Prospect.
Matthew Svedman, 19, was found lying in the southbound lanes of Rand Road south of Prospect Manor Avenue when police and fire department officials responded about 8:30 p.m., Mount Prospect police said.
Emergency crews started life-saving measures and transported him to Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, the release said.
Svedman, of Mount Prospect, was pronounced dead at 9:16 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
Witnesses told police he stepped into the roadway just before he was struck by the southbound vehicle, the release said.
The 56-year-old woman driving the vehicle was not injured, police said. There were no passengers with her.
