Glenview Walgreens manager promotes living well

GLENVIEW — He may not be a man of many words, but that’s okay for Marcus Anderson, store manager of the 24-hour Walgreens at the corner of Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road. At least 40 hours per week, Anderson communicates his message well to customers and staff who bring him questions about the hottest toy this season, or where they can find that ingestible flaxseed that doesn’t grow on Chia Pets. As the former Northbrook store manager, Anderson, of Lake Villa, formerly of Winthrop Harbor, was promoted to oversee the new look of the Glenview pilot store, which features soft neon lighting and more. Anderson, who grew up in Waukegan and attended Waukegan High School, has built a loyal following on the North Shore.
Q. So Mr. Anderson, tell us about your family.
A. Kim is my wife. My children are Tyler, 8, a second grader, Kaylee, 6, is in kindergarten. Corey is 2.
Q. How long have you lived in Lake Villa?
A. Moved in May.
Q. Where did you go to college?
A. Southern Illinois University with a degree in history.
Q. And your hobbies?
A. Golf, playing football with my kids, bowling, playing basketball,
Q. How long with Walgreens?
A. 11 years.
Q. Why is Walgreens such a great company?
A. You can take your career as far as you want to go. Walgreens cares about its team member development and rewards those who excel. We help people live well, stay well and get well.
Q. Why is the Glenview community a great place to be of service?
A. It’s got nice mix of people who seem to look out for each other.
Q. What’s the hot toy or sales item this season?
A. Furby, air hog helicopter
Q. What’s always a favorite seller at the holiday season?
A. Gift cards.
Q. Chi Chi Chi Chia! Walgreens is famous for its “As Seen on TV” products. What’s your favorite Chia Pet (could it be Hello Kitty?) and why?
A. Homer Simpson because he’s cool.
Q. Now Santa’s elves hear those chia seeds are not only Chia Pet hair transplant worthy, but they’re human edible, found in a Walgreens vitamin aisle near you. Correct? What’s it called?
A. Flaxseed.
Q. What have you learned while working at Walgreens?
A. There are no shortcuts. Take time to do it right. Take care of your team members.
Q. Why is it so important to be a good Glenview neighbor?
A. If you take care of people they will take care of you.
Q. Why is Glenview a great place to raise a family?
A. Low crime, beautiful homes, plenty of activities for children to get involved in.
Q. What’s your wish for the New Year?
A. That my family and team members have a happy and healthy New Year.
