newsmakers New Fellow named

Michael C. Craven of Beermann Swerdlove LLP has been accepted as a Fellow to the American Academy of Matrimonial lawyers. Craven is a resident of Glenview and has been a family law attorney since 1984.

The American Academy of Matrimonial lawyers provides leadership that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law. The Academy Fellows are a select group of 1600 attorneys across the U.S. that are generally recognized by judges and attorneys as preeminent family law practitioners with a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity.

Physical therapist and member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Babette Seligmann Sanders, PT, DPT, MS, of Glenview, has received APTA’s Marilyn Moffat Leadership Award. Presently associate professor and assistant chair for curriculum affairs for the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Sanders also serves as physical therapist at Evanston Hospital. She has held educator positions with the University of Illinois and SUNY-Downstate Medical Center, and a number of clinical roles.

Active in APTA since 1970, Sanders has served the Education, Women’s Health, Orthopaedic, Acute Care, Neurology, and Health Policy & Administration sections. She has served in the House of Delegates and in leadership positions at the national and local levels. Sanders has been honored as the inspiration for the Babette Sanders Leadership and Service Award by the Illinois Chapter and has been presented with the award, Outstanding Physical Therapist Award, Lucy Blair Service Award and Outstanding Clinical Educator Award from the Chicago Area Clinical Educator’s Forum.

executive named

Association Management Center (AMC) of Glenview recently made the following two announcements:

Joan A. Kram, master of business administration, registered nurse, and fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, has been named executive director of its newest healthcare client, Healthcare Quality Certification Commission (HQCC). Kram also serves as executive director of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN).

Kram joined AMC in 2010 as senior operations manager for two of AMC’s healthcare associations. Kram started her healthcare career as a nurse and gradually transitioned from the clinical arena to research and administration, most recently serving as a project manager for the federally designated Quality Improvement Organization for Illinois.

Jeff Henry, certified association executive, has joined the staff as account executive and will serve as president of the National Frame Building Association (NFBA). Prior to joining AMC, Henry was the managing director of the United States Bowling Congress based in Greendale, Wis. Throughout his 20 years in associations, Henry has worked closely with small business owners and major manufacturing companies.

Training director named

Austin J. Tewksbury, son of Jim and Lynda Tewksbury of Glenview and a 2011 graduate of Southern Illinois University, has been named training director (Ontario, Calif.) for Chrysler Group, LLC. Tewksbury was recruited by Chrysler while at Southern Illinois University. He will be involved in mechanical and technical training to facilitate the Chrysler/Fiat merger.

Scholarship
Program recipient

Hannah Thompson of Glenview was one of 22 students from the greater Chicagoland area to be awarded a scholarship from the Marianjoy Scholarship Program. The program awarded $50,000 in scholarships for post-high school education this year. Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital is a nonprofit teaching hospital in Wheaton that maintains an extensive network of inpatient, subacute, and outpatient sites and physician clinics throughout the Chicago area.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital nurses selected eight of their peers for 2011 Nurses Choice Recognition Awards. There were approximately 150 hospital nominees for the honors. All were direct caregivers who demonstrated outstanding contributions to patient care, customer service, team work and unit operations through professionalism, accountability and excellent communication skills.

The following two Glenview residents were selected:

Excellence in Clinical Care: Melanie Miguel, RN, Nurse Clinician II, was recognized for demonstrating excellence in direct care delivery in any clinical setting; Alla Donets, BSN, Nurse Clinician II, from Glenview was recognized for her significant professional and voluntary contribution in community-based settings and community outreach efforts.
