Libertyville guard Alex Haley is all signed up and ready to go. She’s playing next year at Minot State in North Dakota.

But on Monday night in Glenview, she met a 6-footer from Glenbrook South who made life uncomfortable for her. That’s where she ran into Titans junior Lindsey Oldshue. Haley scored seven points in the Titans’ 42-30 win at home. The victor on defense on this night was Ms. Oldshue.

“Our defense was awesome,” said Glenbrook South coach Steve Weissenstein.

Oldshue was quick to credit her teammates.

“I had a lot of help on defense,” Oldshue said. “I just tried to get in her face. She’s a good shooter.”

This wasn’t the cleanest game ever played.

“It was physical,” Oldshue admitted. “We all got a little worked up.”

Weissenstein is obviously pleased with his team’s defense this season.

“We are holding teams to 30 percent in shooting,” Weissenstein said.

Libertyville’s defense is sharp as well. The Wildcats (16-6) held Glenbrook South starter Amelia Hummel scoreless. Of course that didn’t stop this 6-1 senior from contributing in other ways: She grabbed nine rebounds.

“In every game she has 10 rebounds,” Weissenstein said. “She moved her feet and got her rebounds. Our defense was the key tonight.”

The Titans’ scoring was helped along by Colleen McDonagh’s 15 points. Her sister, Molly McDonagh, added 13, while Oldshue checked in with 10.

The lockdown defensive team surrendered 61 points to Morgan Park on Saturday. The good news was that the Titans (18-4) won this game 65-61.

“They hit eight three-pointers,” Weissenstein recounted.

On Friday night, Glenbrook South stopped Waukegan 45-29.

This weekend, the Titans visit New Trier on Friday night, before returning home to face Lake Forest on Saturday.
