Boys Swimming: Final countdown begins for five Titans

Keith MacDonald won’t reveal his lineup for IHSA postseason meets until next week, but the Glenbrook South coach plans to go after the relays at sectionals.
But it’s all about the individuals Saturday at Evanston for the CSL South meet, where up to three entries per event are allowed per team.
“We will try and focus on them because you can go a little deeper at the conference meet,” said MacDonald. “Our relays won’t be as fast at conference.”
New Trier is favored to win its seventh league title in a row, while Glenbrook South will compete with Evanston for second place. The Wildkits beat the Titans 96-90 in the conference dual meet.
“New Trier will win going away, which is fine. Everyone understands that,” MacDonald said. “But we look forward to being in the competition and swimming at the same site as the state meet.”
This weekend is the beginning of the end for five Titans. J.J. Connor, Thomas Pollick, Ryan Brander, Ryan Hianik and Ron Feingold all are in their final month of their prep careers.
“This is a big few weeks for them, and I am hoping they all step forward,” MacDonald said.
The coach said Connor has been looking good lately. The senior had his junior season cut short by a heart ailment, but he’s fully healthy again.
“He’s starting to look good in the water,” MacDonald said. “We are really excited to see what he’s going to do this week.”
Jon Salomon is another to watch over the next few weeks. The freshman has established himself as one of the best swimmers in the area this winter.
At last weekend’s conference meet for freshmen, Salomon set the CSL ninth-grade record in the 100-yard IM (53.96). He also won the 50 breaststroke and was part of the first-place 200 free relay.
“That really bodes well for our future,” MacDonald said.
