Glenview Stars enjoying success

The Glenview Stars Squirt 2 hockey team advanced to the Final 8 in Blackhawk Cup play with a 2-1 overtime win over the Vernon Hills Ice Dogs at Glenview Ice Center on Feb. 17.
Frankie Addante scored the game-winner (unassisted) 16 seconds into overtime. The Ice Dogs held a 2-1 advantage after two periods, but the Stars tied it at 2-2 on an unassisted goal by Addante with 7:27 remaining in the third period. Glenview took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nick Palmer (assisted by Zach Leaf) at 5:49 of the first period.
Standouts on defense for the Stars were goalie Caleb Larson, and defensemen Nicolas Botvinnik, Alec Gern, Clark Garside and Liam Denten. Forwards Ben Abramov, Max Arzumanov, Odka Dechin Mijiddorj, Carter Erickson, Landon Garrett, AJ Gnospelius and Daniel Pappas also contributed to the winning effort.
The Stars Squirt 2 team is coached by Rob Stevens and Mike Gagliardo.
Stars Squirt 2 continues Blackhawk Cup play in Geneva, beginning against the Falcons Squirt Silver team at 7:10 p.m. Friday. Glenview returns at 5:40 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The Stars also have a playoff game on tap at Jefferson West, in Bensenville, at 2 p.m. March 9. The state championship game is set for March 10.
The Glenview Stars Bantam 2 team won the championship of the 2013 Brickyard Tournament, held in Indianapolis last month.
Glenview earned the title with a 4-0 over the Blues, completing an undefeated run through the tournament.
Bantam 2 opened tourney play with a 4-3 win over the Vernon Hills Ice Dogs, and then beat the Bensenville Blues in the next game. Glenview followed with a 3-2 win over Rockford, and then reached the title game with a 4-0 victory over the Fraser Falcons (Mich.).
Team members include Wes Koerner, Dylan Abrams, Colin Rochford, Pierce Hourihane, Tim Ward, Matt Leiser, Spiro Maglaris, Noel Bautista, Declan O’Leary, Declan Harris, Joe Quilici, David Deborin, Lou Pastor, Joe Crist, Chris Masloski, Kevin Golden and Emmett Marinic.
Coaches were Bob Melton, Mike Malstrom and Cody Donash.
