Members of the Glenview Titan Aquatic Club turned in strong performances at two championship meets over the weekend.

At the Illinois Age Group Championships, which were held at the Illinois-Chicago pool, GTAC scored 140.5 points.

Sam Iida, 14, scored major points for GTAC by placing second in the 500-yard freestyle for 14&Under Boys. Sam also placed second in the 100 backstroke and the 200 back. His times in the 100 back, 200 free (in which he placed third) and 500 free would have qualified him for the IHSA state meet.

Sam’s younger brother, Max, excelled in the 10-and-under age group. Max Iida placed second in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke.

Alexis Kachkin turned in one of the surprise swims of the meet, finishing ninth in the 100 back for 10&Under Girls after qualifying 37th.

The 10&Under Boys relay team (Sean Sullivan, Kevin Schmidt, Nicholas Khatkovyy and Max Iida) and 14&Under Boys breaststroker Peter Dales also represented GTAC at the Illinois Age Group Championships.

At the Central Zone meet, which was held in Waukesha, Wis., GTAC swimmers scored in several races. Ethan Spalding finished fourth in the 1650 (one mile) free. Spalding also scored points by placing eighth in the 500 free.

Sam Salganik took 17th in the 100 butterfly. Diana Capota swam a strong 200 breaststroke, finishing 23rd overall. Also competing at the meet were Niki Wells and Sarah Grieve.

Swimmers 15 years and older from six Midwestern states competed at the Central Zone meet.

GTAC members Katie Wells, Abigail Rosenberg and Bailey Moynihan all qualified for the Junior Nationals in Orlando, Fla. The meet was scheduled to start Tuesday and runs through Saturday.
